Sunny Raw Nori Rolls

This raw sushi recipe is from Vegetarian Times. The "rice" is actually a sunflower seed paste. This was my first attempt at making any kind of sushi at all, and it didn't turn out too badly. Since I don't have a sushi mat, they weren't rolled very tightly, but they were really good.

I've been eating a lot of sunflower seeds this week. It wasn't planned, I just found a lot of recipes that looked good and happened to contain sunflower seeds. They're really nutritious though, so it's a good thing. They're high in the omega 3 fatty acid linoleic, as well as cholesterol lowering phytosterols. They are also high in fiber, protein, B vitamins, magnesium, iron, calcium, zinc and potassium.

Take Out Sushi

Sometimes you just don't feel like cooking, and this was one of those nights. Everyone needs a break from the kitchen now and then, right? So we ordered sushi from Sushi Hana in Montclair. We got vegetable tempura rolls that come with really delicious peanut sauce and avocado rolls, both made with brown rice. Sushi's always a great dinner choice for warm spring evenings!

Vegan Adventures in Miami - Siam Sushi

Sushi places abound in Miami Beach, especially in the Lincoln Street Mall. On Monday before we left for the airport Jessica, Karen and I went to Siam Sushi. They serve both Japanese and Thai food. Jessica and I both ordered the vegetarian sushi sampler lunch special, which came with a variety of vegetable rolls, miso soup and a spring roll. I'll admit that this wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but there were so many other vegan friendly options on the menu that I'd be willing to give Siam Sushi another shot if I'm ever back in Florida.

After we were sitting there for a few minutes, our friends Eve and Lynn came into the restaurant and sat next to us. They ordered Thai food, which they both said was really good. If ever I do find myself back at Siam Sushi, I think I'd like to try a Thai curry or pad Thai.
